The first Country Women’s Association (CWA) was established in New South Wales in 1922. By the mid-1930s, there were associations and branches across Australia.

The CWA seeks to improve the lives of women and children in regional and rural areas. The Association is now the largest women’s organisation in Australia, marking its 100th anniversary in 2022.

Today, the Association lobbies on many issues including women’s health, education, domestic and family violence. The CWA also works to bring local communities together by providing social activities and a range of educational, recreational, and medical facilities for rural and regional families.
