Trove for your students
Activity one - Search
Learning simple search
Optional: Watch the video
- Take the search terms below one at a time and copy them into Trove's search box.
 - Select the green search button. You will see results grouped by category. Scroll down the page to see all the options available.
 - Select the See all...results button to view all results in a category that interests you.
 - Use filters in the Refine Your Results menu on the right-hand side to narrow your search eg. in the Books & Libraries category, in the Format filter, select Article.
 
Tips to make your search more specific:
- Add "" around your phrases. eg. "cathy freeman"
 - Add OR between keywords, eg. "great war" OR "World war one"
 - Add * at the end of a word, eg. "sport* club" for sports clubs, sporting clubs

- Enter a keyword in the search box.
 - Select the Advanced Search link underneath the search box.
 - Select a category from the drop-down menu (eg Books & Libraries).
 - Enter additional search keywords in the applicable boxes.
 - Scroll down to the Collections box and select the drop-down menu.
 - Type or scroll down to and select: Trove Digital Library.
 - Select the green search button.

Year 8 - Civics and Citizenship
Keywords and phrases to try: Demonstrations, participation, representatives, protest vote, referendum

Keywords and phrases to try: Australia for the white man, women's suffrage, great war, world war one
Year 9 - Science
Keywords and phrases to try: spina bifida, fiona stanley, myxamatosis, smallpox, Australian invention

- Sign up for a Trove account (If you do not have access to your email, please use the workshop sign in below).
 - Search for topics that interest you.
 - Create a Trove list.
 - Search for more items.
 - Add them to your existing list or create a new list.
