Tags
Tags are keywords that you can add to items in Trove which can make them easier to find. A tag can describe things such as a topic, a place, an event, a person, a feeling, or your personal research progress. All tags you add should meet the Trove Terms of use.
Find and search tags
You may see tags in a Trove work or item record (in the Find out more on this topic... section), and in a newspaper or gazette article (in the Tags
section in the sidebar). When you select the tag, it will activate a Trove search with the tag keyword/s.You can also search for public tags from the Trove homepage by entering publictag: followed by the keyword/s. For example, to search for the tag lighthouse, enter: publictag:lighthouse
Add a tag
After you create a tag, it will appear in the Tags section of your Trove profile.
To a Trove item record
- Go to a Trove work or item record that you want to add a tag to.
- Scroll down to the Find out more on this topic... section.
- Select +Add a tag. If you are not logged in to your Trove account, you will be requested to Login, Sign Up or Add an anonymous tag?.
- Select an option to make the tag Public or Private. Note: Public tags are visible to everyone. You must be logged in to your Trove account to add a private tag.
- Enter tag keyword/s into the Tag field. To add multiple tags, separate different tags with a comma. To include a comma in your tag, surround the tag with double quotes.
- Select Save.
To a newspaper or gazette article
- Go to the article that you want to add a tag to.
- While in the newspaper viewer, select Tags from the sidebar on the left hand side of the screen.
- Select Add. If you are not logged in to your Trove account, you will be requested to Login, Sign Up or Add an anonymous tag?.
- Enter tag keyword/s into the Tag field. To add multiple tags, separate different tags with a comma. To include a comma in your tag, surround the tag with double quotes.
- If you want your tag to be visible only to you, select the checkbox adjacent to the Keep my tag private checkbox. Note: Public tags are visible to everyone. You must be logged in to your Trove account to add a private tag.
- Select Save.
Edit a tag
Tags cannot be edited. If you wish to edit a tag you should delete it and add a new one.
Delete a tag
If you find a tag that you believe is in breach of the Trove Terms of use please contact us and include a link to the item where it appears.
In a Trove item record
- Login to Trove with the account you used to create the tag.
- Go to the Trove work or item record that you have added the tag to.
- Scroll down to the Find out more on this topic... section.
- Select the small x that appears next to the tag that you wish to delete.
- Select OK to confirm.
In a newspaper or gazette article
- Login to Trove with the account you used to create the tag.
- Go to the article that you have added the tag to.
- While in the newspaper viewer, select Tags from the sidebar on the left hand side of the screen.
- Select the small x that appears next to the tag.
Use tags with lists
Make your list more discoverable in a search by adding a tag to it. Only public lists can have tags that are visible to everyone.
To add a tag to your list:
- Login to your Trove account.
- Select your Trove USERNAME in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
- Select LISTS from the drop-down menu. You will be directed to the Lists section of your Trove profile.
- Select the list that you want to tag.
- In the Find out more on this topic... section on the right-hand side of the screen, select +Add a tag.
- Select an option to make the tag Public or Private. Note: Public tags are visible to everyone.
- Enter tag keyword/s into the Tag field. To add multiple tags, separate different tags with a comma. To include a comma in your tag, surround the tag with double quotes.
- Select Save.
