Edith Cowan.

This news was celebrated in a 1921 edition of The Dawn (Perth, WA: 1921 - 1949), a monthly feminist paper that was produced by the Australian Federation of Women Voters (AFWV).

The Dawn noted that in being elected to the lower house seat of West Perth, Edith 'is the first Australian woman to succeed in entering the Legislative Halls of the Commonwealth.' Read the full article here.

Produced from 1921-1949, The Dawn included notable stories from and about women, both in Australia and internationally, and updates from the Federation’s president, Bessie Rischbieth.

An obituary on Edith’s passing in June 1932 was also covered by the paper.
