The Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports is a ceremonial official in the United Kingdom. The position dates from the 12th century, with the title ‘Keeper of the Coast’. The Lord Warden was solely responsible for the return of all writs to the Crown, along with the collection of taxes and the arrest of criminals. Today the title is one of the higher honours bestowed by the Sovereign - mostly being awarded to members of the Royal Family or prime ministers.
This uniform was worn by Australian Prime Minister Robert Menzies in 1965. Menzies held the title from 1965 to 1978.
