This mystery object is a convict love token. 
 
It was engraved in 1828 by Abraham Lawley Abraham Lawley, a 20-year-old polisher. Love tokens like this one were often made by convicts to gift to loved ones as mementoes when the prisoner was transported.
  
Lawley was convicted at the Warwick Quarter Sessions on 13 October 1828. He sailed for New South Wales on the Layton on 17 June 1829. 
 
Lawley was sentenced to 14 years' transportation for stealing a handkerchief.
