Australia has hosted the Olympics Games twice – Melbourne in 1956 and Sydney in 2000.

The nation has also hosted the Commonwealth Games five times: Sydney in 1938 (the first to be staged in the southern hemisphere), Perth (1962), Brisbane (1982), Melbourne (2006), and the Gold Coast (2018).
