Zimmermann and Athol Shmith

Digitising Australian fashion photography

A more comprehensive collection of mid-century fashion photographs is now available in Trove. A pioneer of the Australian fashion photography scene, Melbourne-based photographer Athol Shmith worked with many well known models of the time including Pru Acton and Anne Hamilton. Shmith donated a large collection of prints and negatives to the National Library of Australia in 1979, but until recently, only a small number were available to view online in Trove.

More photographs from the collection have now been digitised with the support of generous donors, including Australian fashion label Zimmermann.

Read more about the collection and see photographic highlights on the National Library of Australia's blog.
