MINING INTELLIGENCE.
Siidihg. 'Rook Mink. — Captain 'Vivian re
ports, on the 26th of August, that Faulkner's
Shaft is now sunk 5 fathoms below the 8
fathom level, or to within 2 fathoms of the
level of the bottom of Cox's Shaft, which depth
will probably be reached by the end of next
week, when the rich ground standing between
these shafts will be open to attack. I shall not,
however, commence driving in this ground until
.Faulkner's shaft has been sunk to a depth of 20
. fathoms, when I nronose driviher an 18-fathom
level, leaving 2 fathoms as a fork for the water.
The lode in Faulkner's Shaft continues as pro
ductive as last reported. 'A load of malleable
will be ready for the first team' that comes in.
I have f our tributers at work in Gray's stope.
They have sent up about 8 tons of fair mineral
for the furnace, and I have an accumulation of
30 tons of ore and malleable ready for smelting.
I propose to have the furnace lit on or about the
20th of next month. Meantime we are paying
our. way and leaving a little to the credit of the
Mine. When we commence driving' 'north and
sonih of the shaft, the returns will.be greatly in
creased, and a good profit will, in all probability,
be made. ... .

being much encouraged by appearances.
