AIR FORCE MISHAP.
Report on Ground Collision.
SYDNEY, Aug. 24.-The Minister for
Defence (Mr. Thorby) said tonight that
he had received a report stating that the
collision between two Avro Anson bomb
ers of the Royal Australian Air Force at
the Currie aerodrome, Sing Island. on
Tuesday, had been caused by an air cur
rent.
The report stated that one of the
planes was in the act of taking off when
a sudden gust from a cross-current of
wind whirled it off its course against a
stationary machine. Both planes were
badly damaged and would be, brought
back to Melbourne by boat for repairs.
No occupant of either plane received seri
ous injury.
Mr. Thorby added that inquiries would
be held into the accident by the Air
Accidents Investigation Committee and
by the Royal Australian Air Force.
