GOORANGOOLA.
THE WEATHER.—Last Friday evening the hitherto
cloudless sky became overcast by heavy black look-
ing clouds, and about night a light rain set in which
has continued ever since, with very few intermissions.
Much good is anticipated from this happy change,
as the herbage was beginning to look rather parched
in several places. A sufficiency of rain has not
fallen to occasion a rise in the Goorangoola or Camp-
bell's Creeks, but I hear that the Glennie's Creek
came down pretty strong, and that eventually it was
hardly crossable in the beginning of this week.
An accident of a very serious nature occurred yes-
terday at the residence of Mrs Jolley, at the Forest
Springs. It appears that while Mrs Jolley was out-
side the house in the yard, milking a few cows, her
youngest child, a boy about two years of age,
managed to crawl into the fire, where the poor little
fellow got burnt most severely, from the hips down
to the calves of his legs. A messenger was at once
despatched for medical aid to Singleton, but had not
returned up to this time. Great pity is felt through-
out this district for the poor child and his mother,
as Mrs Jolley has been very unfortunate of late,
having, in the course of not quite twelve months
lost her husband, and about 100 acres of land into
the bargain, which the late Mr Daniel Jolley selected
in the hope of thus securing a home for his
numerous children ; but it appears that, through the
instrumentality of some persons unknown, the poor
widow is not allowed to retain the land, which her
husband improved to a large extent, and resided
upon until his premature death.
