LISMORE CLUB
CRICKET IN 3
GRADES TODAY
After a two-week breah
due to the interdistrict fix
tures, Lismore A grade
cricket fixtures will be re
sumed this afternoon.
Clubs will be without the ser»
vices of Lismore's four representa
tives in the Far North Coast
Country Week team, W. Somer
ville, J. Johnston, E. Searle and I*
Raper, who leave for Sydney to
day.
On the turf wicket at the Rec
reation Ground, Northern Star
will meet Western District. Thia
should be a very keen tame. Star
will be * without the services ol
their best bowler, Jim Johnston,
but have a -very powerful batting
side, including F. Smith, who gava
a very attractive display for Lis
more at Kyogle last Saturday. L.
Mcpherson, H. Shand, A. Pidcock,
and other batsmen are likely to
get a lot of runs, and the 'side
[also includes Keith Barker, who
has been promoted after some big
scoring in second grade fixtures.
Wests gave a good display in their
opening match, and with L. Mik
kleson, E. Bay, H. Cooper and
others, have the nucleus of a very
sound side.
Probably the most Interesting of
the first grade games will te be
tween Marist Bros, and Northern
District on No. 3 ground. Marists
appear certain to be strong con
tenders for the premiership. They
have a powerful all-round team,
mcludiug Russell Perry, A Pear
son, N. Mayes, N. Bice, T." Wall*
[bank and J.. Ford, and will be at
full strength today. Norths are,
capable of toppling any of . the
stronger teams as they showed in'
their opening match. Their skipper,
'Gordon Blair, was in great form
Zog e last Saturday and he is
the best fast bowler playing in
Lismore. P. Bowditch, R. Noble
and v. C. McLucas are other strong
Ipivots in Norths' side.
In the other A' grade game,
Southern District will meet. Al
stonville on No. 3 ground. Souths
will be without the services of
their Country Week players, ? Bill
Somerville and Len Raper, and
this is unfortunate as they are
meeting last year's premier side.
Alstonville are .again very strong
jthls_season, with Gordon Devlin,
E. Gerrard, R. Hurrell, K. Daley
ana R Clarke already getting into
their best form. However, Souths
have a. solid side with R. Slade, R.
Irvine, L. Benaud, S. Yabsley and
'A. Dennis as the backbone .
Play in the second grade fix
tures again promises to be very
keen and ^the standard in this
jgrade is higher than in any pr^v
IOUS season. Norths play Marists
on No 5 ground. Northern Star
i ?£? Wests on Nesbitt Park, and
'ground' y Souths on' ko. 2
Tvr3v,^e t.hir,d grade fixtures.
Norths meet Marists on No 9
[ground, Wests play Star on No.' 10
ground and Alstonville and Souths
Clash at Alstonville.
