BUNGENDORE.
From Our Correspondent.
RACES.
ON last Monday there was a large gathering
to witness the racing, and we must congratu-
late the officials on the successful result.
Mr. J. O'Reilly was unanimously elected
judge; Mr. Jas. Moran treasurer; Mr. V.
O'Reilly hen. sec.; Messrs. Gale, Alford,
Byrne, Ryan, and Welch committee; Messrs.
Chinnery, Byrne, and Alford handicappers;
and to each of the above gentlemen the
greatest praise is due for the impartial per-
formance of his duties. The day was most
pleasant. Mr..J. Moran had applied for a
publican's booth, but, through some bun-
gling, the license did not come to hand.
Therefore, Mr. Moran only sold cordials, but
we understand the committee will see he is
not at a loss for the money he paid for a
publican's booth. There was no eating booth
on the ground, which was a great incon-
venience, as people had to come from the
course to Bungendore. There was an absence
of bookmakers, and, taken altogether, it was
a most orderly meeting. There was only
one accident, which occurred in the Hurdle
Race, when Sherd's horse, Robin, fell with
the rider, but, fortunately, both escaped
unhurt. The following are the winners in
the various events:—
Opening Handicap, £5.
T. Gribble's Gobar, 8st 12lb ...... 1
T. Sherd's Elmo, 10st........... 2
W. J. Sherd's Wild Rose, 6st 10lb.. 3
Five started. A splendid race from start
to finish, the winner just getting home by a
bare length.
Hurdle Race (handicap), £5.
W. Withers' Snowy, 10st 5lb .... 1
E T. Hatch's Lady Hubert, 10st 10lb 2
Four started. Won by Snowy after a
good race. Robin, who was a favourite,
fell.
Birthday Handicap, £10.
T. Sherd's Elmo, 9st 5lb.......... 1
E. T. Hatch's Bargerine, 7st 3lb.. 2
Nine entered; seven started. An excellent
race.
Flying Handicap, £5.
W. Sherd's Carouse,7st .......... I
J. McInerney's Messenger, 8st.... 2
T. Gribble's Gobar, 9st 7lb ..... 3
Hack Race, £2.
W. Sherd's Wild Rose, 7st 6lb.... 1
Seven started, and an exciting race was
won by Wild Rose.
Other races for bridles wound up a most
enjoyable day's sport. Mr. J. Chinnery
acted as a most efficient starter. The settling
took place at Moran's, Mr. J. O'Reilly in the
chair A ball was also held at night, and
was fairly patronised. I have been informed
there will be a fair balance in hand after all
expenses are paid.
November 13th.
