Men, Women Run
From "Axeman"
BRISBANE. Friday. — Men
and women dashed into hotels
and shops and barred their doors
when a man armed with an axe
tonight chased about 20 people
through the main streets of Emerald.
After a wild eight minutes' melee
in the centre of the roadway, police
overpowered and arrested the man.
Residents told police that a tall
man, a stranger to the town, appeared
in Clermont Street at 9
p.m., about 100 yards from the
main shooping'block. They said the
man, without warning, lifted the
axe and charged a small group of
people.
Residents said the police showed
great courage when they caught
the man. Later, a 54 year old man
was charged with disorderly be\x=req-\
haviour and with being drunk.
