HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY.
MR - CLARKE to ask the Premier
whether the Minister of Lands has resigned
the position of chairman of the
Strahan Marine Board, and, if not, does he
intend to do so- before the vote is taken
upon the present no confidence motion ;
also that all papers and correspondence
in connection with the case of Mr. Smith,
lately employed in the Electric Telegraph
Department, Launceston, be laid upon the
table.
Mr. BURKE.-For the' appropriation of
a sum sufficient to refund each rural municipality
nil fines and penalties whatsoever
imposed upon summary conviction before
Justices of the Peace in respect of offences
committed within the rural municipality,
and the fees Incidental to summary proceedings
before Justices of the Peace in
respect of offences committed within the
rural municipality, provided, however,
that nothing herein contained shall deprive
any informer of any moiety or share
of any, fine or penalty inflicted for any
breach of any law relating to the General
Revenue to which he' may be entitled
under any law now in force ; provided also
that nothing herein contained shall deprive
the Governor of tlítí'pov'ver or remit-
ting the whole or any portion of any line
or penalty, or the Municipal Council of the
power of remitting the whole or any portion
of any fine or penalty payable to the
treasurer of the Municipal Council. I
