THE CRETAN REVOLT.
WAR STILL RAGING.
FOUR THOUSAND CHRISTIANS
MARCHING ON CANEA.
THE PORTE DEMANDS THAT
ORDER SHALL BE RESTORED.
Desperate fighting between Christiana
and Mussulmans continues in
Crete.
Four thousand Christians are now
marching on Canea, with the object of
recapturing the town.
In the House of Commons Mr. Curzon,
Parliamentary Secretary to the feelings
Office, has stated that information had
been received on the burning of thirteen
Mussulman villages, and that many
people had been killed.
The Porte has notified to the Powers
that unless they restore order in Crete
Turkish troops will be sent there under
command of Saadiddin.
The Bourses on the Continent are
agitated, in consequence of the Cretan
disturbances and the probability of war.

The Porte has informed the em-
basses at Stamboul that it will maintain
a passive attitude in regard to Crete,
pending the efforts of the Powers to
restrain Greece, but if the Powers do
not succeed, the Porte takes military
measures against Greece on the Thessalian
frontier.
