Tlie Into Sir Reginald Pole-Carew was
born at ,Autony, Cornwall, in. 1849. He mar
ried Lady Beatrice'Butler, the eldest (laugh
ter of tli.e Marquis of Ormonde. '
He was educat.ed at Eton and Christ
Clmrcli, Oxford. He served in the Coldstream
Guards from 18G9 until 1899, and was a pri-t
vate secretary to Sir Hercules Robin|on, the
Governor of New South , Wales from^1876
]1S77. H,e was also aide-de-camp to Lord
Lytton, the Viceroy of India, from 187,8 until
LS79, to General Roberts in the Afghan war
between 1879 and 1880, and with General
Roberts in South Africa' in 1881.
