ME. L. DEAN FAKEWELIiED.
I
A complimentary smoke concert and pre
sentation was tendered to Mr, L. Dean, man
ager of the E.S. and A. Banlf, on the eve of
his departure, for Lithgow.
Mr. ^Gerald Parker, .late president of -the I
^P*pgT?3"Shire.Council, occupied the chair, nnd
proposed the loyal toast, also that of "Onr
Gnest." 'Mr. Parker aaid he was indeed
sorry to. be losing his" friend, hut as the shift
meant, promotion, he \wi3hed ,1o congratulate
him,, and wished Mr. Dean, his wife and
family health and 'prosperity in tlio future.
He then handed to Mr. Dean a "wallet of notes
as a token of esteem and in appreciation of
services rendered to Tiki as a citizen and a
good sport.
Others who spoke in support, of the toast
were Messrs. 33. W. Roberts (School of
Arts), M'cllrath (Football Club), ,T. Fogarty
(Doon Boon), and. S. Loder. .
Mr.- Dean, in reply, said that, during Ms
term at Uki he had endeavoured to do what,
ho deemed to be his duty as a citizen and as
bank manager. He had had a pleasant stay
in Uki. He thqpkpd them for the handsome
present and the enthusiasm with which the
toast had been honoured. Ho hoped the
same good fellowship would be extended to
his succeaor, Mr. Daniels.
Mr. J. A. Trvine proposed the health of
Mr, Daniels in a speech of hearty welcomo.
'. Mr.. Daniels, in response, said he was
pleased to be there to meet, the people nnd
assist to send Mr. Dean on his way rejoicing.
He gathered from the speeches tha,t night
that he had a good deal to learn.
A number of elocutionary, vocal and in
strumental items were rendered by Messrs.
W. Dunlop, p, Corcoran. G. Connolly, ant] J.
Oreagari.
. The toast, of the chairman terminated the
proceedings.
