ELECTRICITY
TRUST
Will Bill Get Royal
Assent?
The possibility that the Elec
tricity Trust Bill, passed by a
special session early this year
and which is now awaiting the
Royal assent, would be referred
back to Parliament was discussed
this week.
Pour petitions have been presen
ted to His Majesty the King ask
ing that his assent should not be
given, and it is understood that
the South Australian Government
has received communications from
the Dominions Office on certain
legal aspects, to which a reply has
been sent.
The four petitions were from
the Adelaide Electric Supply Co.,
Ltd., through its London attorneys
(Messrs. H. M. Orr and W. E.
Lane), from preference sharehold
'ers of the company with five signa
tures, from Messrs. J. M. Braithe
waite and G. H. Jennings (both
care of the Midland Bank, Ltd.. 16
Regent street. London), and from
representatives of the debenture
holders.
In the Assembly this week, the
Leader of the Opposition (Mr.
Richards) asked the Premier (Mr.
Play ford) whether there was any
foundation for the rumors current
in the city that, in addition to the
petition by the Adelaide Electric
Supply Co., other interests, some
of them not very far divorce* from
Parliament, had Bent a certain
matter to London in support of the
claims of the AES Co.
He also asked whether Mr.
Playford knew what was likely to
happen to the legislation passed at
the special session.
In reply, Mr. Playford said that
he understood that certain peti
tions had been presented to His
Majesty, and that those petitions,
?with the Bill, were now in the
Dominions Office.
