Loss of Coal
Increasing
SYDNEY.-About nine times more
coal has been lost on the northern
field because of mine stoppages this
month than was lost in the first three
weeks of September.
Losses this month from stoppages
caused by industrial and safety issues
are about 107,000 tons, compared with
11,700 tons for the same weeks in Sep
tember.
Eight mines were idle because of
strikes in N.S.W. yesterday, and the
coal production loss was 8450 tons.
At a special meeting of the Police
Court yesterday, 69 employees of the
Excelsior Colliery were proceeded
against on charges of having absented
themselves from work on October 17.
Sixty of the men were fined £5 each,
and three of them £3 each.
Officers Resign
For an undisclosed reason, Mr. J.
Connell. local industrial authority for
the northern coalfield, has tendered his
resignation to Mir. MIighell, Coal Com
missioner.
Mr. T. O'Toole. Mr. J. Jackson. indus
trial officer for the Coal Commission.
who investigate coal disputes on the
northern field, have also resigned.
