Mr. Waters Rugby
Union President
-Atslhe annual meeting of llie A.C.T. Rugby
Union on Friday night, Mi*. J. S. Waters was elected
president, for 1955.
Mr. Waters has 'been associ
ated' with Rugby in the district
since.' 1939 and founded the Con
ibcrra Royals Club. .For same
seasons ho has represented
A.C.T, on the. Country Rugby
Union and has been 'a OcimlJlned
Country selector and an' A.C.T.
selector and coach.
Mr. H, W, Frame was elected
senior vice-president and several
changes in vice-presidents .were
made.

The annual report showed that
1954 was one of .the best seas
ons ever enjoyed by the A.C.T.
Rugby Union with a record num
ber of teams entered in all com
petitions. A record credit bal
ance'was also reported by the
.treasurer despite high costs in
volve'd in supporting the Coun
try-Newcastle. tour of New Zea
land in which four players from
the A.C.T. took part,
The retiring president, Mr. I,
R, Alexander,, expressed his ap
preciation of the work done by
the officials of the Unioh and
congratulated the premiership
teams on their success.
On vacating the chair, Mr.
Alexander forecast that 1955
would prove even better for
Rugby Union than the previous
season and wished the incoming
committee success.
Mr. Waters drew' the atten
tion of the incoming committee
to the large amount of prelimin
ary work necessary before the
season commenced, and asked
everyone for their support.
PLAYERS' CHANCE
Mr. Waters said that 1955 pre
sented the County player with
his best opportunity to date to
gain .selection in Combined Coun
try, N.'S.W. and even Australian
teams, . .

be offered if country players
were not selected.
All clubs reported big atten
dances at annual meetings and
some had already commenced
training. Canberra Royals com
menced on February 9, East
em Suburbs on February 20,
and Norths, Queanbeyan and
Braictvvood ' will commence ^ this
Prospects in the Junior Held

a record season was experienced.
Twenty-five teams are expect
ed, to participate in the competi
tions conducted by the Junior
Union in. four grades.
Support was given to a pro
nosal to alter the conditions of
the third grade competition with
regard to age and weight, but
it was referred to the council of
the union which will meet at
Havelock House next Thursday
at 7.30 pjm,
