Sydney, November 9.
The troopers have encountered the bush
rangers Gilbert, Hall, and O'Meally, and ex
changed shots with them. The bushrangers had
to retreat. Hall got bogged ; the police requir
ing to halt to reload, the bushrangers were
enabled to escape.
At Wagga Wagga one bushranger stuck up
18 men at a station, and burnt the house to the
ground.
Sydney, November 10.
The S. M. Herald states that it is intended to
request the English Government to interfere for
the protection of the natives of the Polynesian
Islands from kidnapping.
At auction to-day bacon and hams were sold
at an advance of l|d. to 2d. per lb. Oilmen's
stores are firm.

Auckland.

October 31.
The Claude Hamilton brings 20,000 sove
reigns.
Sydney, November 13.
The accounts of the crops at Bathurst are
highly satisfactory, and a rich harvest is
expected.
At auction Northern tobacco has been sold at
Is. 6d. to 2s. ; Bucknor, at 3s.
The Maria Smith has returned to port dis
masted.
