DERBY AND B RIDGE] FA TFR DIS
TRICT PLOUGHING MATCH.
This annual match, tinder the auspices of ths
North Western Agricultural Society was In-Id
yesterday in Mr. Ryan's paddock, which adjoins
the Derby railway station. Very favorable
weather prevailed, resulting in about 200 turning
out to witness the competition. Local resident
were particularly noticeable, the number
being considerably added to by visitors from
Marong, Inglewood, Bridgewater and Serpentine.
Ploughing commenced shortly after niue o'clock,
and the whole was finished about four o'clock.
The ground was of a sandy nature-and
rather.' soft, although very acceptable to
competitors, considering the recent heavy
rains. An excellent luncheon was provided by
Mr. Ilolden, and the publican's booth was under
the careful attent on of Mr. Ryan. The judges
in the several classes were Messrs. J. Lyons. J.
Ellis, J. Pi ice, A and D; Messrs J. M'Lay, D. Hoi
den, W. Hay, B, C and E. Mr J. Ryan made a most
courteous and efficient secretary. The entries m
the several classes were:—Class A, W. Ryan,
Derby; J. Hay, Woodstock. Class B, J. Kelly,
Powlett; D. King, Korong Vale; M. Ellis, Lock
wood. Class C, H. Wirth, junr., Woodstock; .T.
Laniprell. Powlett; S Green, Marong. Class D,
G. Bassett, Woodstock; W. Wallace, Shelboiirnt;
T. Wallace, Shelbourne; J. H. Winkley, Kerang;
W. Brown, Woodstock; D. Holden, Derby. Class
E, J. Price, Sydney Fiat; F. Brown, Woodstock.
Messrs. Hart, Smith, Bailey and B rger, who are
seeking election for the North-west Riding in the
Shire of Marong, were present on the ground, and
during the afternoon addressed the electors. Mr.
.T. Sternberg were also present. The results were
a< follows :—
Class A (champion d mbls furrows).—Open to
all. W. Ryan, Derby (M'Calman aud (Jard), 1;
.T. Ilay, Woodstock (M'Calman and Card), 2.
B&st crown and finish—W. Ryai.
Class B (double furrows).—Opon to ploughmen
that have never taken n.ore than two first in class
B, or first or second in class A. M. Ellis, Lock
wood (Lennon), 1; 1). King, Korong Vala
(Hutchinson and Walker), 2; J. Kelly, Powlett
(Clarke), 3.- Best crown and finish—J. Kelly.
Class C (double furrows).—Open to ploughmen
th t have never taken a first in class B, or any
prize in class A. H. Wirth, jun, Woodstock
