Ashtox's Olympian Circus.—Last night an
entirety new programme was presented to the
public at this popular place of amusement. The ,
attendance was very good, and the Ion? and varied
entertainments' were extremely well received.
To-night the Circus opens for a benefit in aid of
the funds of the Bcndigo Hospital, and no doubt
the place will be crowded, as several novelties will
be introduced on the occasion.
The WeatHrr.—Wo were yesterday visited by
one of the Australian summer plagues, a " hot
wind." The heat at noon was stifling; towards
the .close of the day a cool breeze set in, which
was most refreshing after the excessive heat of the
morn ins;, I
Behdiqo Hospital—-There are at present 40 !
patients on tlje books of the Institution. Durinn- I
the past week 4 have been admitted, 2 discharged I
cured, and 2 died. ° I
Raoes at Kangaroo Flat.— Yesterday two
matches were run at Kangaroo Flat. The first
was between a black horse of Mr. Deefian's, and
Mr. John Stephenson's grey mare, for £5 a side,
and was \yon by the former. The second, a
match for X20 a side, between Mr. Baptista's
chesnut horse and Mr. Mason's bay horse, was
taken by the chesnut. A hurry scurry, for which
three horses started, was got up, Mr, Bruce's Pili
Garlic proving the victor. The sports concluded
with a pony race, the particulars of which -we
have not heard.
