SOUTH AUSTRALIA.
We have received the South Australian papers
to the 16th inst., from which which we make the
following precis and extracts :
_ The truth of the discovery of a valuable mine of
silver and lead, is now beyond all doubt. A company
has been formed, at the head of which are the
first class of the community ; the capital is £6,000,
in shares as follows-300 at £10 each, 400 at £5
each, and 400 at £2 10s. each, with power to en
crease the capital to £10,000. The vein was opened
and a quantity of ore produced, on which the most
satisfactory experiments have been made. A considerable
quantity was to be shipped for England
by the Cygnet. '
One of the worshipful aldermen had attempted
to introduce politics into the city council, which
occasioned some squabbling.
- The relief of Colonel Gawler from the Government,
had not been officially announced to him.
It would appear there is a total indifference to
the receipt of letters in the Colony, from a list
published of no less than 220 letters laying un-
claimed in the post-office of Adelaide.
There were only 13 patients in the hospital, no
deaths or admissions from the 7th to the 16th April.
The Minerva schooner, and the steamer Corsair,
were preparing to soil for Launceston.
The Cygnet was loading for London, and the
Edina for Port Phillip and Manilla.
Charles Boucher, who denominated himself agent
for the British and Australasian Bank, had been
charged before the Resident Magistrate's Court,
with having obtained money under false pretences.
Mr. Stephen put in a bill for £300 in proof. Both
Boucher, and a person named Milne, who has been
in some way connected with him, were called upon
to enter into their own recognisances, to appear
again.
