' At the invitation of iMiss Isabel Rhead
a number of parents and friends assem
bled at Malvem (Music College, Stirling
street, Bunbury, to listen to a recital
given by the students.
A pleasant and interesting afternoon
was spent in listening to the various
items presented, and an interesting fea
ture was the number of very young chil
dren who contributed to the programme.
Without exception one and all acquitted
themselves admirably, and reflected the
greatest credit both on themselves and
their teacher.
A most versatile programme had been
prepared, and was contributed to by the

At the close of the musical programme
Miss Rhead, distributed prizes to those
Who had made She greatest progress dur
ing the year, and in. a happy little speech
Remarked what pleasure it gave her to
reward those who by diligence and hard
wqrk had won them, and at the same
time hoped that those who had riot tliis^
year gained one would 'do so next. ' The
special prize for best sight reading (pre
sented by Mr. Fiddes) was won by Miss
GvVen Tipping ; special - prize for best
playing from memory, Miss Edith Gor
don (presented by Mrs. Fiddes); special
prize for regular attendance at lessons,
(presented by .Miss. Garleton) Miss Doris

The first scholarship at Malvem Music
College for pianoforte playing has been
awarded to iMiss Gwen Tipping, and en
titles the holder to one year's free tuition.
This scholarship will he given annually
to the student who displays the most
talent in conjunction with conscientious
work during the whole year. Any stu
dent over the Senior Grade will be eli
gible. A similar scholarship will be
offered to the singing pupils.- MiV
Rhead is negotiating with a violin teacher
from Perth to visit the college every wee):
and Miss Gwen Tipping has joined the
teaching staff, and will assist with jun
ior pianoforte and theory students.
The studios had been tastefully decora
ted' with flowers for the occasion, and n,
dainty afternoon tea was provided in
the dining-room,_and dispensed to th--
visitors and children by Miss Rhead, as
sisted by some of the senior students.
Miss Rhead was the recipient of many
congratulations upon the marked progress
and successes achieved by her pupils.
