PETER PAN'S LAST
CUP.
To Go to Stud After
Autumn.
MAY GO TO ENGLAND.
BMELBOURNE, Sunday.
Tuesday's will be Peter Pan's last
Melbourne Cup. After the next
Autumn racing campaign he will be
retired to the stud, and may even be
sent to England for breeding pur
poses.
These plans for Australia's champion
racehorse were revealed by his owner
(Mr. Rodnoy Dangar.)
Mr. Dangar was born at the Baroona
station, in the Hunter Valley, New
South WVales. There, too, Peter Pan
first saw the light.
Impressed as Foal.
"Even as a long-standing foal, Peter
Pan impressed all who saw him. He
developed into a giant as horses go,''
said Afr. Daugar. "'He was not nug
gety, or unwieldy, but very early became
a big, loose-limbed fellow, and I knew
he was a good one. One of the secrets
of his greatness is that unusually long
stride of his.
"Unemotional Horse."
"An unemotional horse is how Peter
Pan best could be described. He gives
no trouble, and stands at the barrier as
immobile as a horse of marble. He
throws off his impassiveness, however,
if other horses pass sharply in front of
him, or just behind him, when they are
taking up their barrier positions, He
seems especially to resent a horse mov
ing directly behind him at the barrier,
and is likely to lash out on occasions."
"Loved By All."
"Are you not afraid someone might
injure him at night?" Mnr. Dangar was
Asked.
"What, between races! Not at all,''
he replied. "Every true Australian
loves a good horse, ande they all love
Peter Pan. I cannot imagine anyone
wanting to get, at Peter Pan maliciously.
Of course, some people would'do any
thing for money, but that fear has never
given Inme worry.
also racing well enough to suggest that
he may be dangerous.
Lizzie Lu has won at each of her first
four starts, and may defeat those op.
posed to her in the Tamar Handica
June Star was second to her last wee
and at a difference of 36 yards may
make the finish interesting. Globe
Voyage should do best of the others.
SLENDER PATCH SELECTED.
The Coastal pacer Slender Patch ap.
peered unlucky to be beaten in the )an.
bury Park Handicap at the. last Elphin
meeting, and may atone in the Elphi
Handicap ..'to-day. She registered
3:3S? on a heavy track, beating all hut
Camena Derby. Irene Adonis is in fi
buckle *and needs only to' reproduce her
track form to be in the finish. Semnper
Parata is' a recent winner, and Cleve
Hylc, on track form, must be respected,
If she were kept for the Launceston
Handicap, over two miles, Lizzie La
should do well, as she has been finishing
on in her races. The veterans Dazzle
Patch and My Star have both been rae.
ing fairly well, and Gladys Alma is in
good heart. She has won over twa
miles. Old Mountain Rock may do b'es
of the others.
CHAMPION SPRINTERS.
The champion sprinters will meet in
the RIavenswoood Handicap. Floryist
looks like the winner. At Elphin re.
cently lie was second to Denage, golin
2.586, and the race will have improved
him. Armagh finished fast enough ia
the same event to suggest that she is
now reaching top form, and if reserved
Camena Derby would have to be re.
spected.. Rondomere will probably be
saddled a second time, and will be day.
