UNLAWFUL POSSESSION.:
CONVICTION AT COOL
GARDIE. '!
Coolgaedie, June 24s.
At the police court to-day
Charles Frank Jarvey was charged
on remand with the unlawful pos
session of -£1 26, which the police
suspected to.be part of the money
stolen from the Coolgardie railway
station in March last Mrs. Jarvey,
the wife of the accused, was re
called and questioned as to the
money which she said she had
saved. She stated that she went
into a situation at the age of 15
years, and was married at the age
of 18. She received wages at the
rate of 10s. to 12s. per week.
After Mr. Vyner, for the defence;
and Mr.Henning.f or the prosecution,'
had questioned the witness, the
bench announced that the explana
tion given by the accused as to the
posee'ssion of the monev was not
satisfactory, and it sentenced him
to six months' imprisonment. Mr.
Henning made application that the
money found on the accused should
be paid over to the Railway
Department, excluding a small
cheque which he had received for
wages. In the amount found on
the accused was a cheque for .£20,
drawn by Messrs. Strickland and
given in exchange for money lent
by the accused. Mr. Vyner opposed
the proposal to restore the cheque,
and the bench said that it would
order only the notes and the gold
to be restored to the Government.
