HOW I ESCAPED
MY CAPTORS
I^AIILY one morning, as 1 was go
ihg to the railway station- to col
lect ni\ master's papers. I was seized
roughly and put into a large basket.
Before I could pr.test the lid was
olosid and 1 was in complete dark
ness.
Atter 1 had oecoine accustometi to
the darkness I found that I was sit- i
ting on ii cushion, so, making the j
best of a bad job, I curled up and
wpni to sleep.
When I awoke 1 found myself in a
small, narrow street iu the firm grip
of a scraggy youngster, who was
shouting lustily. Instantly I was the
centre of attraction, and was being
looked at ou ail sides. But an in
stant later a fat youth appeared with
another dog. so attention was turned
from me to it. Taking this advant
age, 1 made a rather hasty exit from
the scene, and was soon racing down
the street. On turning the corner I
collided with a portly gentleman, who
did not seem very pleased, and raised
his umbrella as if to hit me, but I
dodged him and continued on my
way, barking loudly. I
Threading my way through the
crowds of people I at last saw a rail
way station and madp towards it. As
I was crossing the road a car came
/along at a great speed arid I jumped
back, trying to avoid it. Too late ! I j
felt a sharp stab of pain in my front -
paw. As I lay there still a kind
lv man came and picked me up. and.
taking me with him, tied my paw up.
The next day T was taken to the
railway station and was soon restor
ed to my master, who gave me a spe
cial treat, as hp was so glad' to have
found me.
