Woman Joins Party
CAVE DWELLERS SEARCH
Miss Jill Cossley-Batt, the woman ex
plorer and' scientist,', will for the space
of a year be the' only woman in an
expedition to the heart of the Hima
layas.
She and Dr. Irvin Baird.the explorer
of the Inca ruins in South America,
are conducting a party to search the
ranges of the world's highest mountains
for a mysterious people who exist in
caves and are reputed to live to more
than 130 years of age. - ?
Supplies and financial assistance
have been received from the Govern
ments (of v Canada, Australia, . South
Africa,' New Zealand, and Newfound
land. While the ruling princes of the
Indian States through which the ex
pedition has to pass have promises,

NUT-AND-HONEY DIET'
'My most important reason for re
visting these strange people of the
Himalayas, after an absence of 10
years,' Miss Cossley-Batt told a 'Daily'
Mail' reporter recently, 'is to try to
find out the secret of their great age
and how they avoid tuberculosis and
cancer. If we can discover it' I think
we shall have done something for man
kind and medical research.
'We shall make Dai'jeeling our base,'
she added, 'and shall work northwards
towards the caves where these people
live so simply. Our equipment will be
as light as possible, and we shall take
no meat. Raisins, nuts, almonds, dried
fruit and honey will be our principal
diet, with rations of chocolate.
. 'A sound-film apparatus -will also be
taken.'
