T WAS pleased to see the
letter from your corres
pondent O. W. Strang (Opin
ion, Nov. 8) condemning the
proposal by the Government
to license all vacht skippers.
Whenever there's a drowning
accident caused by yachting,
someone's bound to rush
straight to the nearest news
paper urging strict examina
tion of anyone who takes
charge of sailing craft. If it
were possible to have pub
lished a list of drowning
fatalities caused by yachting
over, say, five or 10 years,
we could then compare the
list with the number of
deaths caused by motor ac
cidents, where drivers are
licensed.— J. H. Bellion,
South Perth.
? The - previous correspon
dent said that a proposal by
the Government to license ail
river craft would not prevent
accidents.
