Muswellbrook Superior
In Forwards Clash
SINGLETON DEFEATED 7-3
Muswellbrook thoroughly deserved their
win over the Singleton thirteen. The 'Brook for-<*>
wards mixed it with the Singieton pack from
start to finish and never let up when the
sure was fully applied late in the second half.
Highlights of the game the game did not know who
were:
❖ The fact that the Brook
received no fewer than seven
penalties inside Singleton's
half and within striking dis
tance of the goals, awarded
them by the official who
was in charge of the game.
<> Woods converted two of
these penalties from directly
in front of Singleton's goals.
❖ The fact that Singleton
did not receive one penalty
within striking distance of
the Brook's goal.
❖ The fact that Single
ton's hooker Rod Halter met
with the displeasure of the
official who was in charge of
the game, so much so that
the inconsistency of this offi
cial who was in charge of
the game caused Halter to be
confused as to what this offi
cial wanted in the set scrums.
❖ The fact that this offi
cial who was in charge of
to send off in a scrimmage,
taut finally, decided on Tom
Mills who was endeavouring
to .part the two players con
cerned.
? The conditions of the
day naturally were against
playing the open game. Hara
forward clashes were evident
throughout. Both packs play
ed extremely well, with the
Brook forwards slightly the
better on the day.
? Ron Robinson gave one
of the best exhibitions of wet
weather football seen on the
ground. His opposite. Gar
lick was also outstanding in
the full back position. Rob
inson was"" not disgraced and
held his own, with> probably
the best full back in the Up
per Hunter.
? .Lance Newton showed
that the harder the game
the better he plays. When
the pressure is on this play
er is first man up all the
time. Newton plays it tough
and hard and does not ask
for nor gives any quarter.
? Garlick's try, right ,on
the bell was a splendid piece
of backing up and capped a I
really good display by this
fine player.
? Pull credit is given the
Brook thirteen and congratu
lation., to their coach. Bob
