A QUICK RETURN
——^——
MAN WITH A RECORD.
SENTENCED TO SIX MONTHS.
BREWERY HOSPITALITY.
Christopher Palmer, a well-set-up young
man, who, in answer to Mr. W. A. G. Wal-
ter, F.M., in the City Police Court to-day,
said he only came out of the Fremantle
Gaol last Saturday, pleaded not guilty to
having been on the premises of the Duke of
York. Hostel last Monday night for an un-
lawful purpose.
Mrs. Morris, a resident of the hostel, said
that on Monday evening, she was sitting in
her room with a friend when the accused
entered. She said to him, "Haven't you
made a mistake?" He walked up to her
and said, "Don't .make a noise, all. I want
is the loan of threepence." Her friend
pushed him out of the room, and she called
the night porter.
To the Magistrate: The prisoner looked
as if he was the worse for beer.
Evidence was given in support. When
Detective Gee attempted to arrest Palmer
he made a bolt for it, and ran a couple of
hundred yards before being captured.
Palmer said he recollected nothing of
the occurrence whatever, having been
drinking around town all day. At 8 o'clock
in the morning he went round to the Swan
Brewery looking for work, and had some
beer there. He was also at the Emu
Brewery, and had some more drink there.
When he came back to town he visited vari-
ous hotels.
Palmer, who the magistrate said had con-
tinually been in trouble since 1915, mainly
for stealing, was sentenced to six months'
imprisonment.
