POPULATION OF
AUSTRALIA
60,000 INCREASE SINCE
OUTBREAK OF WAR.
Australia's population at the end of
June was 7,031,159, comprising 3,
550,330 males and 3,480,829 females.
It has increased more than 60,000
since the outbreak of war. ;
The population estimate was given
by the Commonwealth Statistician.
Figures for the States were: New
South Wales 2,783,043, Victoria 1,904,-
064, Queensland 1,021,300, South Aus
tralia 596,973, Western Australia 467,-
226, Tasmania 237,921, Northern Ter
ritory 7877, Australian Capital Terri
tory 12,755.
There are 20,000 more females than
males in Victoria and 20,000 more in
South Australia. In other States
males outnumber females.
