Douglas Haig, the British Commandant
on the west front, reports:—Attempted
raids by the -enemy northward of Arras
and north-eastward of Ploegstreo Wood
were unsuccessful. Wo secured pri
soners as the result of encounters in
the neighbourhood of Grandcourt, Nou
ville St. Vaast, Faupffissart, and Wyts
ch'aete. ? Our heavy artillery caused-an.
explosion in the lines opposite .Arras.
