MINING
The following notes on the mining
industry in W.A. were issued from the
department during the week: —
COOLGARDIE GOLDFIELD. .-?
? ? ? ? i
The gold yield from the Coolgardie
goldfield for the, year 1912 was 41,893.52
fine ounces, constituting the largest
yield; on this field since the year 1907,
and 8,139.81 fine ounces more than was
won during the year 1911. Three dis
tinct features stand out prominently in
connection with the Tgoldfield- for the
past year, viz. (1) The success of tri
bute parties on the Burbanks Birth
day 'Mine, Burbanks, Hidden Secret
North Mine at Bundynie, and at Bay
ley's Mine, Coolgardie. (2) The strik
ing of rich patches in the vicinity of
.Coolgardie, -notably at the :old Austra
lasian Mine^and aV-the Camel Paddock'.
(3) The; forfeiture: ;of and; applications
for forfeiture of certain ' mines near
.Coblgardie which have' been in exist-:
ence since the very early days. As the
result of these forfeitures, what was
formerly known as Griffiths Mine, will
in future be - known as Golden Dyke
Junction, and 'Queen's Cross as Pros
perity Mine. There has been an in
crease ? of ? 50 miners' rights issued, as'
against the year 1911.
At ' Bonnievale the Westraiia and
East Extension Mmes.vob&nedia tail
ings licence to tr^t-the large body of
tailings on their forfeited leases, but
up to the present they have not. yet
commenced to treat them. Several*
small parties of, men are prospect
ing on their old leases, and- : have
obtained good results from the various
small parcels of, stone Which have been
treated by them' at the Vale of Cool
gardie .battery- The tributers on the
Yale of CoxDlgardie mine are opening
up a large block of stone there, and
it is expected -that the output for tht
coming year will -be in excess of that
for the previous year.
