DELIBERATE FRAUD
Carnarvon Man Fined
What Mr. A. B. Kidson, P.M. described
as a 'deliberate piece of fraud' was told
at . the City Court to-day by Detective
Sergeant Doyle, when he charged William
Henry Carr Boyd (43), clerk, with having
obtained board and lodging to the extent
of £4 by presenting a valueless cheque to
S. H. Dennis, proprietor of the hqtel at
Mt. Helena.
The cheque was drawn on the Western
Australian Bank at Carnarvon, and was
subsequently returned from the bank
marked 'no account.'' Defendant had
submitted the cheque after he had stayed
at the hotel a fortnight.
Mr. J. P. Barrymore, appearing for the
defendant, said his client had been em
ployed at Carnarvon, and had possessed a
.bank account the-e. While staying at
the hotel, Boyd had been negotiating for
further employment, which would replen
ish his depleted bank account, but those
negotiations had not been successful.
Defendant, who had since gained em
ployment at Carnarvon, was fined £10 with
costs, and was ordered to make restitution
in full to the complainant.
Sergeant Houston prosecuted.
