NANGWARRY R.S.L. FAREWELL
NANGWARRY. - The
R.S.L Sub-branch and RSL
Women's Auxiliary combin-,
ed for the second occasion
this year to bid farewell to
four of their members, Mr.
and Mrs. R. Thring and
Mr. and Mrs. W. Shanks.
The social evening was
held in the clubrooms - a
beautiful floral arrangement
formed an ideal setting for
arien joy able. programme of
dancing, games and compet
itiohs-Recorded music was
provided by Mr. G. Joyce.
Mr. G. Bittner CRSL Presi
dent) presented Mr. Thring
with, a cigarette - lighter and
Mir. ;W. Shanks a tobacco
.wallet in recognition of
their loyalty tnd services to
the branch. Best wishes
were extended.
Presentations of a cup,
saucer and plate sot were
made to Mesdames Tkring
and Shank by Mrs. L>. Ver
coe (President RSL Auxil
iary), who voiced Vegret in
losing two valuable mem
bers - appreciation and
thanks were extended for
their past sei'vices to the
auxiliary. A delicious sup
per terminated the func
tion. .

A meeting was "held to
form a ;parents' and friends'
association in cqnjtrtictlon
with St. Joseph's Convent,
Nangwarry. Officiers elected
were:-Mrs. J. Jones, Pres
ident; Mrs. !L. Mclvor,
Secretary; Mrs. B. Marsh,
treasurer. Owing: "to the
small number of parish lad
ies attending, it was decid
od to form a committee at
a later meeting. It was
agreed that meetings .would
be held the second Wednes
day afternoon in each
month, whore favourable
attendances of enthusiastic
m'embiers would speed up
the provision of amenities'
for the classrooms.
COLTS' DANCE
The enthusiasm of the
ibcial committee of the
Tarwarry Colts football
club resulted in a most suc
cessful dance held in Nang
warry hall on Friday night.
They were ably assisted by
the girls of the younger set
and Basketball Club in dec
orating the stage with bal
loons, streamers and
troughs of mixed blooms
and Tarwarry colours (gold
and brown). Novelty dances
were conducted. Mr. F.
Gower was M.C. During the
evening, Mr. S. Thompson,
of Tarpeena, relieved the
band by supplying bag-pipe
music. A sumptuous supper
was served by the girls,
assisted by the social com
mittee.
The committee boys ex
pressed their 'gratitude and
thanks to the ladies of
Nangwarry settlement for
their generous donation of
supper fare. The door tak
ings amounted to £27.
At a recent dance and
competition, £33 was raised
by the Tarpeena players of
the combined Tarwarry
Colts Club.
Mr. and Mrs. R. Oats (of1
Crystal Brook), spent. last I
week-end with Mr. and Mrs.
L. Oats.
Mr. E. C. Oats, of Crys
tal Brook, spent last week
end with his daughter and
son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. C.
Dolling.
Mr. T. Jenkins has re
turned to Nangwarry after
spending a few days in
Adelaide.
CHURCH OF ENGLAND
Owing to the small,
attendance of members at
the July meeting of the
Church of England Friends,
the main part of business
matters was deferred until
the next meeting in August.
Mrs. W. Marks presided. A
Competition, conducted toy
Mrs. M. Bailey, was won by
Mrs. V. Wundersitz.
The monthly competition
"the best article" was won
by Mrs. J. Heffernan, Mrs.
G. Wiese, (second) and
Mrs. Wundersitz (third).
Next month's meeting will
feature : "the best article",
competition once again.
Afternoon tea, served by
Mesdames M. Dohnt and W.
Bailey, terminated the
meeting.
SMOKOH SALES
The Methodist Church
Ladies' Guild conducted a
sale of home-made pasties
at the local saw-mill recent
ly. The sum of JES resulted.
Arrangements have been
made to conduct a similar
sale on Thursday, July 22,
during the morning smolcoh
at the mill.
The Nangwarry School
Welfare Club held a suc
cessful mixed stall recently
to aid club funds. Tho, sum
of f11/7/6 resulted.
Mesdames W. Bailey and
M. Dohnt spent several days
in Adelaide recently.
Mr. S. K. Gower visited
Adelaide last week.
Mrs. D. Wood v and son,
Neville, have returned tp
Nangwarry after visiting
several River Murray towns.

association with the church.

Arbor day will be observ
ed at Nangwarry Primary
School on Friday . morning',
July 30, where a large num
ber of flowering gums and
other species will be plant
ed.
