GUATEMALA CITY, Tues (AAP) : One thousand
people are believed to be dead and 70-000 homeless as
a result of heavy floods.
The Guatemalan Government quoted these figures when
asking the united States, for help.
Many villages are still- isolated and the food situation for
Guatemala City's 260,000 inhabitants is : growing . graver
every day. It is estimated' that; it will take two weeks to
repair railways and roads.
The government has asked the U.S. to send an amphibian
aircraft to carry supplies, and evacuate stranded villagers.
It reported an immediate need for clothing, medicine and
other relief supplies.
