REGISTRATION OF RACEHORSES.
A special meeting of the members of
the Victoria Racing Club was held ou
Tuesday to consider proposals in regard
to the registration of racehorses and the
future publication of the Australian
Studbook. 3Ir. R. G. Casey moved
"1. That the committee of the club be
authorised to enter into an agreement
with the governing bodies of other lead
ing racing clubs in the Commonwealth
for the establishment of a central regis
try of racehorses, and for the appoint
ment of the necessary officials on such
terms and conditions as the committee
of the club may deem proper. 2. That
the Chairman of the V.R.C. be and he is
hereby authorised, subject to the appro
val of the committee of the club, to en
ter on behalf of the club into an agree
ment with the representative of the
A.J.C. and any other racing clubs in the
Commonwealth for the purchase of the
copyright of the Australian Studbook,
and for the future compilation and pub
lication thereof, and to take all such
steps as may be necessary or proper for
that purpose, 3. That the Chairman bo
indemnified out of the funds of the club
against any liability arising out of or
incidental to agreement." Mr, Casey
referred to the desirableness ol Iftvviug

ing of thoroughbreds and overlapping in
routine work. He thought that the in
terests of racing would warrant its
unanimous acceptance. As regarded the
legal position, the committee had taken
the advice of Mr. Adrian Knox, and had
been assured that it had power t/o nego
tiate for the purchase of the copyright
of the studbook, and then conduct it as
a federal undertaking. The motion was
carried with only two dissentients.
