Thinking Day On Chief's
Birthday

Wett Wednesday is the birthday of
our Chlefi, who belong to us and are

all the world. That day has been

The Deputy State Chief is anxious that

week of February.
Guldens are reminded of tbe letter pub
lished otk December 28. In which the
World Chief asked, every guide, who can
?Sord It to contribute one penny to the
World Bureau Fund. These amounts
gulden are asked to forward to head
anartens, marked 'Thlx&lxig Day contribu
tion from ? .*' Liter they will be passed
on to the seoetary of the World Bureau.
A deUghtfil International Thinking Day
ceremony has been arranged by the world
committee, and can. he had on applica
tion at SJL headquarters.

'Adoption' Of An Unemployed Man
The Denblghihlre Girl Guides, as one of
their schemes of service during 1932. the
coining of age year of the movement, de
ckled to adopt an unemployed man and
start him In a business of his own. Many
plaos for earning money for this purpose
were carried out. When the Union Jack
was carried round the county during
Guide Week, a wallet far this purpose was
taken, too. Into which, at each halting
place, contrib xtlons from the guides them
selves were placed. To overcome the -ilfa-
cult problem of how to select one unem
ployed man out of so many deserving
c&scs. other organisations were Invited to
nominate applicants. eventually the
choice fell on a married man of Penycae,
near Wrncham. This man felt that his
best chance of employment was to stare
a. business as a carrier. . Within twenty
four tours -rf this suggestion being made,
a two-ton Mortis lorry was bought,
licensed, and Insured for Mm by the
guides. With this, having obtained a
contract, he carried milk to Liverpool.
SWIMMING CABNTVAIi.— The arrange
ments for the swimming carnival this year
will be.ln tbe hands of Miss Jean Wood.

Et)lTHBORGH.— The 1st Edlthburga
Guides celebrated their 2nd birthday, and
the brownies their first. In the parish
hall on January 31. The District Commis
sioner (Mrs. Fattlnson) came from Malt
land for the occasion, an-i the mothers
of the girls and guides from Torketown
were present. The birthday cakes, made
by M^aames Paine and J. J. Ryan, were
Illuminated, and were cut by -n« p. Mc
Donald and Mrs. Pattlnson. The Commis
sioner congratulated the twelve guides and
nine brownies whose service stars were
due.
