ABATTOIRS MARKET
GOOD SUPPLY OF QTJAIOTT
CATTLE
VALUES nttM ATXATB BATES
Stock agents drew for MB cattle, oat
of which* 922 were yarded for Monday's
sales at the Abattoirs, an increase of
approximately 50 compared with last
week. Over 600 of the total came from
Queensland, between one and two hun
dred from the Far North of this State.
odd lots from the North, and the usual
quota from local sources. Bullocks and
steers formed the bulk of the offering,
with a sprinkling of cows, young chop
pers, and buus.
There were three consignments of
almost equal quality and standard of
breeding. A further draft of 170 bul
locks and steers came from the Nappa
Merrle Pastoral Company of Queens
land, constating of light to medium
weights In excellent condition. The
price was a little in advance of that
secured last week, but the cattle were
heavier, and although the lightweights
met a ready demand, the more weighty
sorts were cheaper. From Cumamona
Station a draft ol exceptionally choice
bullocks and steers of Meal trade
weights was submitted. They were
equal to the best paddock-fed cattle,
and met a ready sale at firm rates.
Messrs. G. & E. A. Brooks consigned
a further draft from Nilpinna Station,
comprising light to heavy weight steers
and bullocks in good to very prime
onler; which, with the exception of the
heavyweights, met with keen competi
tion from the trade. Currawilla Sta
tion (Queensland) was represented by
184 bullocks in splendid order, excess
weight find age being the only faults.
Mr. T. Scbied (Queensland) forwarded
a draft, principally of steers and
heifers, in good, trade order and of
suitable weights. Sir Sidney Kidman's
interests were represented by over 300
bullocks and a few cows, all of which
were In wonderful condition, but, like
the Currawnla cattle, many animals
carried too much age and weight.
Values and Quotations
The city trade was fully represented,
and country butchers also operated.
Owing to next Monday being a but
chers* holiday, and no sales being held
until Tuesday, the trade had an extra
day to take into account, and this fac
tor had aninfluence on values. From
the opening the demand for handy
weight steers and oxen was keen, and
prices for this class ruled very firm at
late rates. Medium weights also sold
well, and although at the early sales
heavyweight bullocks were Cheaper, the
supply proved within requirements
and towards the close late values pre
vailed. Choppers and bulls sold well
