CROWNING OF "QUEEN"
ALTHOUGH the wea
ther was most un
pleasant, a record crowd,
including visitors from
Burnie to Smithton,
watched in the Rocky
Cape Hall the crowning
of the Queen of Trans
port (June Lamprey) in
the Boat Harbor Area
School "Queen Carni
val".
David Hogarth, as the her

nounced the coming of the
Queen, who, with her court,
entered the hall to piano
forte acompaniment played
by Miss Rae Bramich. Page
boy, Wayne Bessel, in a white
satin suit with gilt buttons,
carried the cushion on which
reposed a golden crown, stud
ded with brilliants. Holding
a basket of flowers to match
those half-wreathing her
hair, the little flowergirl,
Margaret McMahon, wore
frilly white tulle.
Tall and graceful, June
wore a long white frock of
tulle-and-taffetas, with white
mittens, and double string of
pearls. Her coronation robe
was of cornflower blue velvet,
lined and edged with white
satin, aglow with sequins.
The long court train was sup
ported by four maids-in-wait
ing, Mary Hogarth, Audrey
Nolan, Rita Medwin and
Gabrielle Lamprey, wearing
identical frocks of pale blue
robia voile, over taffeta of
deeper blue. Their mittens
were of white taffeta and
lace, and they wore silver
hair bands and single strings
of pearls.
On the stage June was
crowned "Queen of Trans
port" by the Warden of Cir
cular Head, Cr. E. L. O'Con
nor.
Mrs. Nicholls (Wynyard),
who trained the children,
and others who helped to
wards the success of the func
tion, were warmly thanked.
