Urges inquiry into
problems of aged
CANBERRA- An inquiry
into the whole scope of
social service payments and
the problems of the aged
was urged by Mr. Bland
(Lib., N.S.W.).
He also suggested the estab
lishment of cottages for aged
people around district and base
hospitals.
Mr. Bland, speaking in thc
House of Representatives dur
ing the estimates debate, call
ed for an entire revision of the
views on retirement and the
payment of pensions.
A person's physical age
rather than his chronological
age should be considered in
determining these factors, he
said.
"If we are to be faced with
an additional demand for man
power for commitments in
south-East Asia we cannot go
along on the basis of allowing
people to leave the ranks ol
employment when they reanh
60 or 65, Mr. Bland said.
