I Dr. .T. G. Bauld, of tho Council for
Scientific and Industrial Research, and
Mr. C. J. Porritt, of tho Department
of Commerce, and secretary of the Fed
oral Potato Growers' Council, who have
boen on a visit to tho North-West Coast
in tho course of an investigation into
problems confronting tho potato indus
try throughout tho Commonwealth, re
turned to Launceston from Burnie by
car yesterday.
On Saturday they visited tho Far
! North-Wost. To-day they will travel
' to Hobart, returning to Launceston on
Thursday to board tho Taroona for Mel
bourne. They will inspect districts in
tho Midlands.
[ Dr. Bauld said yesterday morning
i ho had boon very impressed with tho
fertility of the swamp arcas at Smith
ton, giving high yields at cheap cost.
and with tho tremendous amount of
work dono in clearing and settling land
on the North-Wcst Coast.
"Thore was ovidence," ho said, "as
in most of tho other centres along tho
Coast, of the effect of the good seed
distributed by tho Agricultural Depart
ment's potato station at Tewkesbury,
