I BELLEVUE FANCIED FOR
WOODEND TO-DAY
...... MELBOURNE, Sunday.
Bellevue is likely to improve his good record on country race
courses by winning the Red Hill Welter at Woodend to-morrow,
when the Woodend Race Club will hold its first meeting of the new
season.
Eight races will be decided and minor events may be won by
Montezuma, Extraordinary and Briwan.
Bellevue in engaged in two races
the Red Hill Welter and the Cam-1
paspe Highweight. The welter, a mile,
should suit him better than 10 furlongs
in the highweight. Bellevue has seve
ral creditable performances to his cre
dit in Melbourne in the past few weeks,
and earlier in the year was successful in
several good races on country tracks in
Victoria and South Australia.
Like Bellevue, St. Loyal has a/ecepted
in two races, the Novice Purse and the
Red Hill Welter. This much improved
gelding has bright prospects in which
ever he starts. If he starts in the wel
ter bc may bc hardest for Bellevue to
beat.
Two smart gallopers, Extraordinary
and Montezuma, will run well in their
respective divisions of the Three-Year
Old Handicap, of six furlongs. Monte
zuma was successful at his last start at
Pakenham, and will have benefited by
the race.
OTHER LIKELY WINNERS
My Nance, Hectare and Capricorn
read best in the first _ division of the
Maiden Handicap and Nightan or Grand
Wedge may provide the winner of the
second division.
The speedy Briwan will keep his
rivals busy ill the Novice Plate. He has
raced most consistently in thc past few
months, anti is ono of the fastest mod
erate sprinters racing on country
tracks.
Guerdon finished strongly in win
ning at Pakenham recently, and will
bc suited at a mile in the Novice Purse.
Others with sound prospects are St.
Loyal and Microphone, who has been
rather unlucky lately.
Silenius, who once ran third to Ajax
in a w.f.a. race at Flemington when
trained at Randwick by W. Kelso,
shaped like a coming winner at Dow
ling Forest on Wednesday. He may
win the Campaspe Highweight. Silenius
is a winner at Randwick and his class
should stand him in good stead.
