A RETROSPECT : 25 YEARS AGO TO-DAY.

with thc Premier and thc Minister for
Railways with reference to the exten-
sion of the railway line from Burnie to
Flowerdale, urging that the Govern-
ment should bring forward a proposal
during tho session for tho authorisation
of this work. Tho Promicr »aid that
tho' difficulty in tho way was in con-
nection with thc mile or so of railway
between tho Government line mid thc
Burnie brenkwator. Negotiations wcro
now being proceeded with between thc
Government and thc E.B.TÎ. Co., and
until these were satisfactorily com-
pleted the construction could not be
commenced.
A T thc monthly mooting of tho Pcn
guin Council on Saturday Cr.
Counsel asked thc Council Clerk to road
certain portions of the last report by
Mr. W. H. Twelvetrees, the Government
geologist, on tho Penguin iron mines.
After the. report had boen read Cr.
Pullen said it only bore out what a
section of tho people had been trying
to maintain, namely, that there was a
very important industry right nt their
doors waiting to bc developed.
