- Another fire oeenrred at Wynyard in [;
thc early lurars of yesterday morning, t]
thc building concerned being the old {.?
fire reel shed, situate»! on thc csplanado j,
opposite the Commercial Hotel. £
The lire was firit noticed by Mr. Noil ¡
Sheridan, who lives close by, and the .
alarm bell at thc fire station was rung r
shortly after 1 a.m. Thc brigade ar- j)
rived at the spot a few minutes later, £
and no timo was lost in getting to work, J¡
with thc result that within a few miñ- ' |
. tites thc fire was overcome. "' " í
The building was, however, consider- |i
ably damaged, one corner of it being £
burnt through, and the rest of the wood £.
work charred, thc roof timbers being
practically demolished. *
The bui'ding was empty, and there is
considerable speculation as to thc ori
gin of the fire. One member of tho
fire brigade has stated that there wero i
evidences of kerosene or some similar ¿
oil having been scattered over ouo cor- ?
ncr of the building. The door of tho
building..was .'found to bo open when i
tho fire was first discovered.. ,-. ./.- ii
It is only a few days ago that thc \
fire brigade board were approached with !"
a request that the building be loaned I
to the howling club as a" tool sliiJ, un- t
til required by tho board, and it would ¡ t
probably have,been removed within a f ¡¡
week or two. ' . .. |
