QUEENSLAND DOUBLE TRAGEDY.
BRISBANE, Tuesday.
The man who was convicted of having ,
misappropriated moneys belonging to 'the
Australian Cotton Assentation's Wowau
ginnery, and who shot himself on a grave
at Toowong Cemetery on Monday, is said
to have had a war record; and it is stated
that the unfortunate woman who shot her
self on Onetree Hill recently' was not his
wife. Donald McKenzie was the name
under which the man was tried and con
victed of misappropriation; but in letters
written before his death he gave his name
as Capt. Burgestorm, of South Africa,
where- he, saw service in the war. Subse- '
quently he arrived in Western Australia
with his wife, and went into business as a
hotel .keeper. Later he in said to have
deserted his wife and proceeded to Queens
land, engaging in cotton culture, and even
tually becoming manager' of Wowan. The
woman who committed suicide while
McKenzie was awaiting trial ia stated to
have been a school teacher at one tune.
McKenzie's legal wife is believed to have
been searching for him for. some time.
