THE BARRIER 'POSITION.
BROKEN HILL, November 15.
The ballot for the election of officers of
the A.M.A. for the rext six months closed
on Friday night, but it waa announced on
Saturday that uhe voting papers had not
been counted, and1 that -_he result would
not be made known until Monday, and.
possibly not until Tuesday. Chief inte
rest centres in the election of the Presi
dent and Vice-President. Mr. George
Kerr and 6Ir. J. Middling having been op
posed1 for vhose portions. If they are de
feated it ia said that tie settlement oi the
strike will .be a atep nearer.
The following telegram -has been sent
from the Broken HiU Benevolent Society
to Mr. Jabez Wright, M.L.A., in Sydney:
—'The benevolent Bociety has received
?only £100 of tbe £300 promised it by the
Chief Secretary, as a special subsidy to the
mines donation. The position is desperate
All relief has been stopped owing to the
funds being exhansted. Please urge. that
the balance of the amount promised1 be
made available immediately.'
